The Editor
George Samios was destined to be into Drinks!
Growing up with Greek heritage, glasses of something always meant dinner or food was on the way and people coming together.
After studying journalism and working in the media, George took the plunge and opened a restaurant in Canberra, bringing to life his love of hospitality and fulfilling his desire to learn more about food and wine. Restaurant and wine list awards followed, as did a weekly wine column for The Canberra Times.
Having decided that wine was ‘his thing’, in 2000 George joined Australia’s largest wine company, Treasury Wine Estates, working with great winemakers and iconic brands such as Penfolds, Wolf Blass, Saltram, Coldstream Hills, Wynns and many more.
He loves wine history and the role drinks play in bringing people together and enjoys sharing his knowledge to help others learn in his down to earth, easy-to-understand way.
Today, as well as being custodian of some Australia’s most iconic cellar doors in the Barossa Valley, Coonawarra and the Yarra Valley and Editor of THE [DRINKS] EDIT, George is an educator, event host, wine raconteur. He has introduced many novices to wine via his weekly wine segment on SEN Breakfast. He loves a story shared over a drink or two, most of all when people gather around the table for a chat!
